County Intro
Amelia County was formed in 1735 when it was split off from Prince George County. Prince Edward County was split off from Amelia County in 1754; and Nottoway County was split off from Amelia County in 1789.
Parish Intro
Bristol Parish was formed in 1643. Amelia County was originally comprised of Raleigh Parish which was split off from Bristol Parish in 1735. Nottoway Parish was split off from Amelia Parish in 1748. It included area that became Prince Edward County in 1754. In 1755, St. Patrick's Parish was split off from Nottoway Parish. In 1789 what was left of Nottoway Parish became Nottoway County.
Records
There is no 1810 Census for Amelia County. The "V" section of the Alphabet is missing in the 1820 Census. Land Tax Records have not yet been added to this page.
