County Intro

Prince Edward County was formed in 1754 when it was split off from Amelia County. When researching prior to 1754, it is obvious that Amelia County records should be searched.

Parish Intro

Bristol Parish was formed in 1643. Amelia County was originally comprised of Raleigh Parish which was split off from Bristol Parish in 1735. Nottoway Parish was split off from Amelia Parish in 1748. It included area that became Prince Edward County in 1754. In 1755, St. Patrick's Parish was split off from Nottoway Parish shortly after Prince Edward County was formed.
