Mary has some interesting material and theories about this family. Send Verna a SASE and extra stamps
for copying if interested in details.

MADELINE DODD. RT 6, BOX 248, SHELBYVILLE, TN 37160 found these families in the Sandy
Creek Township, Mercer Co PA 1850 Census:r~600 Hilltop Road-new address)
JACOB VAUGHN and JOSEPH AXTEL living with a Clark family.
JACOB VAUGHN, age 36, cabinetmaker, wife Eliza, GEORGE, HUGH, REBECCA, BIDANA?.
SAMUEL VAUGHN, age 55, ANNE, wife, ANDREW, LUCINDA, REBECCA, WASHINGTON,
PERRY. They are may be father and son, though possibly brothers or cousins. Samuel was born ca
1795, which would make him 28 years older than the WILLIAM VAUGHN mentioned in White's
History of Mercer Co—the same age range as THOMAS, William's father.  Maybe Thomas and
Samuel were brothers? The JACOB VAUGHN, who married EUNICE STREIGHT (see May 1989
issue), mentioned in Upton's Trumbuli Co Ohio history is evidently not the one listed with wife and
children above. The above was born ca1814, the Upton's was born 1819 (wives don't match either),
but may have been the Jacob Vaiighn listed with the Clark family.     Any thoughts on this???

RANDALL CHANDLER. 6328 Limewood Ave, Memphis, TN 38134. and BERTA ROLAND,

VAUGHN, whose will dated 1786 left a widow Mildredge. See past issues of this Newsletter for
details on this line.

TWO BENJAMIN VAUGHANS OF HAWKINS CO TN, BORN 1805
In the January 1985 Newsletter, p. 2, Johnette Franke and Mabel Harp indicated that John &
Nancy Callicott Vaughan's son Benjamin married Martha Simmons.
In the Jan. 1988 issue, p.3,  Verna Banes tentatively stated that James Vaughan's (b. 1767) son
Benjamin W. married Eva Everheart (1834, Hawkins Co TN). Now we know those assumptions
were incorrect. Through intenstive research by Mabel Harp, Naomi Hopperstad, Mary Gregg, Alice
Wineinger, & others, it has been decided that these two Benjamins (both b. 1805) have been reversed.
Were they cousins??
The main proof is that one is always referred to as Benjamin W. (Walker), and the other as Benjamin.
Benjamin W. is listed in the 1840 win of James (b. 1767). References to these families win be found in
Newsletters pp. 17 & 25, 1984, p. 18; 1986; p. 51, 1987; and p. 3, 1988 issues.
An undocumented source states that wife of James (b 1767) was Elizabeth Walker. - Therefore it seems
logical that the Benjamin Walker Vaughan would have been their son. James' win names widow Sally.
Did he have two or more wives?
If facts are correct, Benjamin (wife Eva Everheart) was the son of John and Nancy Callicott Vaughan;
while Benjamin Walker (wife Martha Simmons) was the son of James and Elizabeth Walker Vaughan.
Children of Benjamin Walker and Martha (Martheir) Simmons Vaughan were:
Lucinda, b. 1829, m. David D. Anderson (Derrick).
Samuel S., b. ca 1832, m. Sarah.                Benjamin W., b. ca 1834.
Robert Arnout, b. 1841.               Martha, b. ca 1843, m. Jordon H. F1etcher(?).

NAOMI LONG HOPPERSTAD, 1224 Otto Blvd. #1, Chicago Hts. IL 60411 is the great-great grand-
dau of Lucinda & David Anderson. She joins Verna Banes and others (see p. 3 of the January 1988
issue) who descend from James Vaughan born 1767.
