MARLENE ERWIN DAVIS. Box 19, Dupont, WA 98327      is another descendant of
WILLIAM VAUGHN/VAWN and wife Mary.(See p. 85, Nov. 1988 issue).  She descends from
daughter ISABELLA who m. WILLIAM ERWIN.  She wonders where they are buried.
Also add to the list of researchers connected to this line the names of:
LOIS MACKEY, 3990 Majestic Or, Concord, CA 94519.
FRANK SHANNON, 10 Beaver Rd, Camp Hi 11, PA 17011.
Barbara Van De Pete, 8430 Hiway 2 West, Havre, MT  59501.

MILES VAUGHAN, 1803 Preston Trail, Harlingen, TX 78552 (note he has returned to
his South Texas home) wrote:"The two MELKIJAH VAUGHANS have continued to bug me,
so would like to share this information.  I recently had a chance to look at the
later census records of MELKIJAH SPRAGGINS VAUGHAN b 1897 GA and which provides
further evidence that this Melkijah was the member of Congress from Madison Co AL.
HUNDLEY SPRAGGINS VAUGHAN, son of the TN Mel was born in AL (probably Somerville).
Look at this analysis on Mel for the years 1860-70.  Hundley b 1827 is listed as
born in AL on both censuses.  The TN listing of 1850 is a mistake.
"It now tracks very logically as follows:     1813 War of 1812.
1818 Ran a store Summerville with brother William.  (See note (H).
1820 Marries SARAH A. VAUGHAN, Lebanon, TN.  1821 Son TALLERAND  b. TN.
1822-24 Moved back to AL.       1825-26 AL Congress.
1827 Son HUNDLEY S. b AL.       1827-28 AL Congress.
1829-30 Back to TN.    '        1830-71 Leguardo, Wilson Co TN.
Note #1: Recall that line from Mother MONROE: "... the house of WILLIAM VAUGHAN was
used as the first government office...It was called the White House."
"In my first study of the two Melkijah's I compared Melkijah S. Vaughan's signature
on the Alabama constitution and on his marriage and to me they are identical.  An
application for the land in Morgan Co. for a Melkijah Vaughan is a completely
different signature.  I enclose copies of those signatures.
"Mary Gregg and I have offered proof before.  This new evidence would tend to even
more support Melkijah Spraggins Vaughan's son's statement that his father was a
member of the Alabama Congress for many years before moving to TN.  Conversely the
Wall/Balch group cannot offer one bit of evidence except an erroneous quote from
Mother Malone.  For those Hundley Vaughan seekers, I have a copy of the fly leaf of
a Bible given to Mel by LITTLEBERRY stating, "To my brother Melkijah S. Vaughan."

JOE VAUGHN = FRANK JAMES?
In various issues of this newsletter references have been made to the stories told
about the JOE VAUGHN who was alleged to be FRANK JAMES.  I hope I have stated this
sentence properly because there are many confused "facts?" circulating about this
possible connection.  LORA McVAY MILLER, PO Box 334, Nowata, OK 74048 is one of
people who is involved in keeping the truth separated from the legends.  So, I would
suggest you contact her about details and names of reliable compilers of this family
history.  She has pictures of Joe and Nancy Vaughan and their tombstones.
SEE family sheet for JOE VAUGHN and NANCY RICHARDSON on another page of this issue.
