CRAIG SMITH, 718 N. Olive St. Seguin, TX 78155 wrote that his gr-father BECKHAM
VAUGHAN, b SC ca 1808, was listed on 1830 Edgefield Co SC census. He next appeared
on record in Lowndes Co AL in 1833, where he married HARTY (HARRIET) ANN WARD.
(His name on the marriage license is spelled VAUN.) They lived in Lowndes Co until the 1840's.
By 1850 they were living in Mobile, AL where he dealt in real estate and was a cotton factor.
Their daus: EMMA CAROLINE and MAGGIE J. Emma Caroline married WILLIAM F.
HUNT, 1856, who moved to Lavaca Co TX 1868 and later to Kyle, Hays Co TX where she
died 1903. Maggie married JAMES F. NEWBERRY 1858 in Mobile, and then moved in 1876
to Falls Co TX where she died 1908. She is buried in the Johnson Cemetery in Falls Co TX.
Beckham was last on record in Mobile in 1876. Craig is searching for parents of Beckham and
Harry (Harriet) Ann, and any other information. Refer to p.15, Jan 1986 NEWSLETTER:
CRAIG discovered that Beckham had lived in Lowndes Co AL in the 1830's, so he went there
and found many records on Vaughans.
SHARON SUBLETT, 2715 Truxton Ave, Bakersfield. CA 93301 offers this correction to her
family sheet printed in the June issue: The parents of WILLIAM HENDERSON VAUGHN
were DANIEL VAUGHN and ANNA GOENS, both of TN, instead of WILLIAM DALLAS
VAUGHN as Sharon had originally thought. William Henderson Vaughn was born in Bowie,
Montague Co, TX, instead of Dallas Co TX, too.
RUTH TYNES, Rt 1. Box 670-A1, Quinlan. TX 75474 wrote that she had found her family
listed on p. 58 of the June issue of the NEWSLETTER under "Records copied by Pat Allen.
She found the name of her gr-father's brother (PULASKI VAUGHN), which gave both his
death date and place of burial. Also on the same page,, in Wise Co TX, was listed a deed
from her gr-gr-father N.J. VAUGHAN to his wife DELILA JANE VAUGHAN in 1859.
(Note from Verna: I enjoyed that letter doubly because Pat Allen was instrumental in helping
someone, even though she has no Vaughans in her family.See other records contributed by her
on p. 4, January 1988 issue.) Thanks, Pat! Ruth also needs information on GEORGE
WASHINGTON VAUGHAN, b 22 May 1871, believed around Denton, TX. He is the son
of NATHAN JAMES VAUGHAN and DELILA JANE (SAP). Siblings were: JAMES
BENJAMINE, JOHN FRANKLIN, PULASKI, LIZA ELLEN, OLIVER COLUMBUS
(Ruth's gr-father), and MARTHA LEER. He was living Portales, NM ca1911.
ROBERT VanDYNE, 1849 Roberts. Sali'na, KS 67401 is working on a manuscript of soldiers
listed in the State of Kansas (1865) census. He sent the VAUGH(A)NS:
VAUGHN, JOHN, age 20 b TN, served 11th KS Company D, Inf. Listed in the household
of WILSON VAUGHN, Bourbon Co Marmanton twp, house # 733.
VAUGHN, LEWIS, age 30, b ME, served 7th KS Company A (Cav?). Listed -in household
of LUTHER SPERRY, Brown Co Irving twp, house #101
VAUGHN, JOSEPH A, age 21, b ME, served 14th KS Company A, Inf. Listed with Lewis
Vaughn (above) in same household.
VAUGHN, ROBERT E., age 22, b NY, served 1st KS Company D, Inf. Listed with his
company ?, camped at Lawrence, KS, house M53. Note: still in service June 1865.

SARA CONGLETON WALKER, P.O. Box 201. Lancaster. KY 40444 is the daughter
of MYRTLE KEISER VAUGHN (b 1889 KY) and HARRY CLINTON CONGLETON.
Myrtle's parents were JASPER NEWTON VAU6HN (b 1846, Morgan Co KY and SARA
JANE HORTON. Jasper's parents were THOMAS VAUGHN and ELIZABETH CARSON.
SARA also gave information on FRANCIS MARION VAUGHN, brother of Jasper Newton.
His children were HORACE GREELEY, WILLIAM NEWTON, FRANCIS ELLEN,
GEORGE AUGUSTUS, ETTIE ASHSA, and GRACIE MYRTLE —all born KY except
Horace Greeley. Francis Marion was deputy Sheriff in the Indian Territory in 1901 and justice
of the peace in Arkansas City. He served in the Union Army four and a half years.
GLORIA (Mrs. W.D.) VAUGHN, 1518 Helrose, Norman, OK 73069. wrote that her
husband's parents were JOHN WESLEY VAUGHN(AN) and EDNA BROCK. John's
parents were DANIEL and LETHIE BOYDSTON(?) VAUGHAN. Lethie was a widow in
1910. Daniel's father was J.D. VAUGHN(AN) whose wife's maiden name could have been
WASHINGTON.
