WILLIAM, b. 7 Nov 1790 and married MARY KINKAID(?). See p. 3, Jan. 1988 , p. 5,
Jan. 1984, and p. 5, Jan 1985 of this newsletter. They share in common William's son JAMES
MONROE VAUGHAN & wife ELIZABETH EVANS. Alice descends from James Monroe &
Elizabeth's dau AMELIA, who m. JOHN CALLAWAY; while Mildred and Carolyn descend
from their dau MARY SIDNEY who m. SAM H. JOLLY.They hope to find descendants of the
other children of James Monroe & Elizabeth.These were JESSIE MAE m. JAMES CUMMINGS;
LAURA m. THOMAS SHOOK; ELIZABETH m. DANIEL McCOMBS; WILLIAM LEROY
m1 MARTHA MERRELL; EMMA m. JOHN NICHOLS; CHARLES m. IDA HANES; JAMES S.
m SIS BEAN & ANA HANES. Family sheets for some of these families will be printed in

BARBARA EBY, 1660 SW Advance Rd, West Lynn, OR 97068 saw my query in the April DAR
magazine and wrote, "I need some Vaughan Roots, and here is what I have." As I looked at her very
scanty information, I realized that here was one of the children of my ancestor THOMAS VAUGHAN
(son of the above James, b. 1767). My great gr-father ROBERT YOUNG VAUGHAN & her great
gr-mother NANCY EMMA VAUGHAN DENTON, were bro and sis! Barbara has collected much
material on her Denton side but had almost nothing on the Vaughans. She wrote that this was only the
2nd time she had responded to a magazine inquiry! Those of us who have written dozens of queries,
letters, etc., know how lucky she was" So, if you descend from THOMAS VAU6HAN who m. LEAH
McCARTY (as well as the above James, etc.), you have a row cousin! Welcome!
WILLIAM BOWEN, 2584 Fenwick Rd, University Heights, OH 44118 wrote that his grmother
was JESSIE EDITH VAUGHN, b Manuta, OH, 1886. Her father was SAMUEL PETER
VAUGHAN, b 1854, to TRUMAN VAUGHAN, b. 1808, and his second wife SALLY JUDSON.
He also mentioned a CALEB VAUGHN. b 1796, d 1890, m. POLLY KING. They seem to have
lived in the Maine and Vermont areas.
CHARLES & EMMA BRASHEAR. 303 Knox St, Abingdon. IL 61410 sent a family sheet for
MIKE VAUGHN & FRANCIS NAZWORTHY, possibly b in TN.Emma descends from the son
RICHARD b 1824, m. NANCY POWELL. Other children were MARY CATHERINE b 1830,
m.WARREN POWELL; MICHAEL b 1835, m. ELIZABETH MULHOLLAND; ABNER b 1838.
LYN & HALINDA GAMELSON, Rt 3, Box 776, RogersviHe. MO 65742 have had little success
in their search on the Vaughn-Bookout connections (see Nov. 86 issue); but recently located the
marriage license between JOHN BOOKOUT & SALLY VAUGHAN, dated 20 Mar 1807 in Knox
Co TN. JOHN BOOKOUT & JOHN VAUGHAN (by mark) signed the agreement for John Bookout
to marry Sally (also known as Sarah) Vaughan. How was this John Vaughan related to Sally? Also
located is an affidavit of heirs for JOHN BOOKOUT, Webster Co MO, dated Feb 1858, stating that
he died 20 Nov 1857. Among the heirs is listed LAVINA VOUN living in Webster Co MO. She was
b 5 Aug 1829 in KY and m 1855 to JAMES VAUGHAN (b AL). They were married in MO, prob
Webster Co, by JAMES BRAZEAL. She d. 1863. The family was on the 1860 Benton Twp, Christian
Co MO census as JAMES VAUGHAN 43 from AL, LAVINA 30 from KY, WILLIAM 9, HIRAM 8,
DELILA 4, and JOHN 2. The Gamelsons wonder if there is any connection between these two Vaughans.
In response to my question if they also had ROLLER connections, they wrote that there is an indirect
connection by marriage in that JOHN BOOKOUT m. SALLY VAUGHAN, and their grandson JAMES
MARION BOOKOUT m AMANDA JANE ROLLER. Anyone with BOOKOUT or WOOLSEY
families, write to -Lyn and Malinda.
INEZ GREEN MOSLEY, 19393 Negaunee. Redford. HI 48240 is interested in STARLING
VAUGHN who d Piggott, Clay Co AR in 1878. One wife was HILEY/HILEAH/HILANN/HILA
who d. 1911. It is said by descendants that Starling was married at least 3 times, but Inez has not
found any marriage records for him. Census lists his birthplace as NC- children were b. in TN. Names
of known children are: THOMAS, WILLIAM, MARK, GERLEAN/JERLEEN, MARY, EMILY
JANE, TELITHA E., ISABELLE C., STARLING, MARY H., ELITHAZ A., GEORGE W.,
MARGARET ANN, & ANDREW JACKSON.
