LANELL DUNN, 2419 Loyanne, Spring, TX 77373 (new address) edits a newsletter for
the descendants of James'Charles and Mary Andrews KING. In a recent issue, she wrote
about a genealogy breakthrough when she received a deed copy which -names the father of
ROBERT H. VAUGHAN, (ca1780 - 1846) J.C. King's maternal grandfather, as WILLIAM
VAUGHAN. It does not, though, shed light on the name of Robert's wife. She thinks it was
Eliza. The King, Andrews, and Vaughan plantations were near each other in the Brunswich
and Mecklenburg Co areas of VA. James Charles was b 1838, Brunswick Co, to CHARLES
R. KING and MARY M. VAUGHAN. Their other children were ROBERT WILLIAM,
ELIZA JANE, MARTHA ANN, RICHARD M(ILES?) and MARY M. James was only
four years old when his mother died in 1843. As his grandmother Vaughan was already dead
and his grandfather King died that same year, his Grandmother MARTHA SHORT KING
helped care for the children. The eldest child ROBERT left VA in 1850 and went to Tippah Co
MS. Robert established himself at Buena Vista, Chickasaw Co MS where his maternal uncle
ROBERT VAUGHAN was located.
ELSIE VAUGHN, P.O. Box 1974. Morgan City. LA 70381 sent her ancestor chart which
shows that she descends from WILLIAM HENRY VAUGHAN, b. 1800, m 2Z Jun 1829
EULALIE TEMPLET. FELINE VAUGHN, their son, m 9 Apr 1877 EUPHEMIC
ACKMAN. VICTOR JOSEPH VAUGHN, b. 1879 m EMILIA MICHEL.One of her
relatives told Elsie that this William Vaughan killed a man in Bayou Goddel, LA and then
left the area. Her remark: "Who knows, he may have started a family some place else."
Then she wrote about contacting MATTIE JUDICE, -Star Rt, Box 570, i-rankl-in, LA
70538 who had information on Elsie's line. Mattie made copies of things needed. Mattie
has been a great contributor of information to the VAUGHAN NEWSLETTER, so I fully
agree with Elsie's statement, "If everyone was as helpful. It would make ancestor searching
a breeze." We both want to thank Mattie!
CLAUDIA BARNES, 5240 Locke Lane. Virginia Beach, VA 23464 wrote that har own
research started in 1980 with very little to go on. Her father CLAUDE LEE VAUGHAN
was the youngest of 7 surviving children. His mother died when he ras S years old, so he
knew little except that his father WILLIAM HENRY VAUGHAN moved to iiorfolk, VA
in 1909 to work on the Jamestown Expedition. William and his wife LILLIAN REBECCA
WORROCK were from Northampton Co NC. Although it was easy to trace Grandma
Lillian's family, the Vaughans have made daudia dig and scratch for every bit of information.
Her gr-grfather TIMOTHY was fairly easy to trace through marriage bonds; Confederate
war records, and as a recipient in a land division deed. PARKER VAUGHAN, Timothy's
father, first appears 1n the 1820 census. There are no wills that mention Parker, but she
found two deeds in the land records. Claudi'a then found LUCY AN?; VAUGHAN in
a will in which she inherited land from her father JOHN PARKER in 1808. This tract
of land was referred to in five different deeds as belonging to DAVID VAUSHAN. She
therefore believes that David was the husband of Lucy Ann and the father of Parker
Vaughan--but she can't completely prove this.
