MAX YANCEY, 606 Reed Rd, Smyrna, GA 30080 knows that his JOHN VAUGHAN,
b 1793 Rockingham  NC, served War of 1812.  He and wife CARA McCRACKEN are
buried Vaughan Cem at White, Bartow Co Northwest GA.  Their son JAMES & his wife
AURELIAS had children:
ALICE, m. a CARTER.   DR. WILLIAM B. in ELLA UPSHAW (he was mayor of White GA)
JAMES, died young             CHARLIE, TATUM, WALTER L. —all in TX pre 1887
Max would like to find others familiar with these names.  More in January 1988.

BETTY BLAKE, Rt 2, Chuckey. TN 37641 shares these notes from her collection:
The1860 census record, for Hawkins County, Tennessee, shows the following household:
Vaughan, Joshua, 48; Sylvia, 45; Isaac, 20; John, 17; Frederick, 14; Hiram, 12, George M., 9;
and. Rebecca, 4,  In 1776, a Frederick Vaughan was one of the men who signed a petition
asking that the settlers of the Watauga Association te annexed to the Provisional Congress at
Halifax, North Carolina.  In 1798 and 1799, the names of John and Sherwood, (also spelled
SharrodJ Vaughan appear on the tax records for Washington County, Tennessee.  The following
Vaughns are mentioned in the marriage records of Washington Co., TO for the years between
1787-1840.  This information is taken from a look titled MARRIAGE RECORD OF
WASHINGTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, 1787-1840 by Norma Rutledge Grammer and
Marion Day Mullins.  None of the names have the final "a", but I have noted that many of their
descendants spell the name with the final "a" added.  This might possibly indicate kinship among
all these people.

I would like to quote an excerpt from an article appearing in THE GREENEVI1.LE SUN,
Bicentennial Edition, July 29, 1976.  The article, by Harry Roberts, appeared on page 10
and was titled "Cherokees Held Full Sway in Greene Area".
"In 1740 a group of Virginia merchants whose names have not survived the years, crossed the
Appalachians and visited the Cherokee towns in the hopes of opening trade negotiations with
the Gherokees.  It is presumed that they followed the Great Warrior Path which would have
taken them through Greene County along the Lick Creek Valley.  Remaining records of this
early journey contain only the laconic statement that a "Mr. Vaughan was employed as pack
nan" for the expedition. Thus happened another irony of history - the hired man and not the
leaders of the expedition left his name on the record of this interesting journey."

JAMES LANTRIP. 518 S. Jefferson Dr. Abilene. TX 79605 has his Vaughn connection
through his grfather's mother.  She migrated to Bosque Co TX as a widow with four of her
young adult children.  Although she married WILLIAM LANTRIP in Livingston Co KY,
her maiden name was MARTHA DIANE VAUGHN, sisi/o FRANCIS MARION VAUGHN.
He knows little more.
