NICHOLAS VAUGHAN was born 16 November in the Tell Township, Huntingdon County area of
Pennsylvania.  In some sources his name is given as Nicholson.  The 1850 Census has Nicholas living
in Tell Township with a wife and seven children, his occupation as farmer and with real estate valued
at $500.

Nicholas's father was Robert Vaughan who was probably born about 1760 in Bangor, Wales.  Robert
settled and took up farming in Huntingdon County in 1780 or 1781 northwest of what is now Blair's
Mills according to Simpson in his "History of Huntingdon County".  Some time after 1812 Robert
broke his leg and died.

Nicholas's mother was Catherine Morrow.  She was born about 1765.  Her father was Thomas Morrow
who died in late 1824 or early 1825 as his estate was entered into the court records in the Spring Term
of 1825 at Huntingdon.  His father was probably the Richard Morrow who settled in Huntingdon
County in 1784 with a son Thomas according to an item in the "History of Huntingdon County".
Catherine died after 1812 from being bitten by a copperhead snake.

Nicholas married Mary Robinson born 27 march 1814 in Perry County.  There are a number of Robinson
families in the area, and so far nothing has been found about who her parents were.

Nicholas died 10 April 1863 and Mary died 17 October 1888.  They are buried in the Upper Tuscarora
Presbyterian Cemetery in Lack Township, Juniata County.  The family has their own plot in the center
of the cemetery surrounded by a low cement border.

The children of Nicholas and Mary are:
1.  Joseph Robinson, b. 1 Sep 1835 near Blair's Mills; d. 18 Jun 1906 Lack Twp, Juniata Co.; m. Margaret
Knepp 24 Dec 1863 Honey Grove

JOSEPH ROBINSON VAUGHAN was born 1September 1835 in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, the
son of Nicholas and Mary (Robinson) Vaughan.

Joseph served in the military during the Civil War.  he was drafted 22 October 1862 and was mustered
into service on 18 December 1862, at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as a Private in Company F,
171st Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers to serve nine months.  On 18 March 1863, at New Bern,
North Carolina, he was treated by the regimental surgeon for external hemorrhoids and chronic rheumatism.
He was honorably discharged from the army at Camp Curtin on 8 August 1863.  At the time Joseph entered
service his personal description was given as: Height- 5' 5", complexion- dark, eyes- blue and hair- dark.
On 22 may 1873 Joseph applied for a pension on the basis that he had contracted the above diseases as
a result f his military service.  On his pension application, he listed his occupation before service as a Laborer
and after service as a Farmer until he became disabled.
Joseph was married to Margaret Knepp 24 December at Honey Grove, Tuscarora Township, Juniata
County, by Rev, Abraham Rhora.  She was the daughter of John and Mary Ann (Yeater) Knepp.
Margaret died 8 January 1900 and Joseph died 18 June 1906.  They are buried in the cemetery at Cross
Keys, Lack Township, Juniata County.  It appears that they lived all their married life in or near Lack
Township.
After the death of Margaret, Joseph was married to a spinster, Matilda Hockenberry on 25 September
1900 at Mifflintown by Justice of the Peace J. Frank Patterson.  On 4 May 1807 [sic], Matilda reapplied for
Joseph's Civil War pension and lists her age as 38 and her residence as Waterloo, Juniata County.  Matilda
