JAMES D. KELLEY, 81 Shirwood Dr. Rochester, NY 14625 has recently done research
in Nashville, TN and found facts that partially confirm and some that partially refute information
printed on MALINDA VAUGHAN of Robertson Co TN in the June 1987 issue. Primary
information on the JOEL VAUGHAN family of Robertson Co TN is hard to locate; but he
did find a land transaction in which Joel gave land and personal property to "my son" JAMES
VAUGHAN, so this identifies another one of the seven children. Also found reference to the
location of the Joel Vaughan family—at the mouth of Sulphur Fork of the Red River in
Robertson Co TN. Records of the Red River Church list MILLEY VAUGHN, ELIZABETH
VAUGHN, and MILES DRAUGHAN (bro of MARY (POLLY) DRAUGHAN).(James notes
that these unknown Vaughan girls were too early to be children of Joel.) He found these notations
in DRAUGHON GEN (1983-) by Wells Draughon which reads on
p. 247: "HARDY DAVIS RUFFIN,.....mar ca 1826 MALINDA VAUGHAN, b. 1807,
Robertson Co TN, d. after 1880, Newton Co MO, dau of JOEL VAUGHAN & MARY
CONTS."
p. 251: "Thomas Wells Ruffin....m. 10 Jan 1828 RUTH VAUGHAN, b 10 May 1812, Spring
Creek, TN, d 19 Jun 1888, RogersviUe, MO, dau of JOEL."
The data he has given in the June issue was mostly correct except that the wife of Joel was MARY
CONTS rather than MARY TENNISON (which had been an assumption).
HELEN LYNCH. 928 N. HUMBOLDT AVE. ONTARIO, CA 91764 descends from JOHN
VAUGHAN who lived in the RI area in 1600's with wife GILLIAN. The line from them is:

BENJAMIN VAUGHAN, b. 1757, Sdtuate, RI m. SARAH BEMAN, SYLVINA AVERILL,
& MARY V., widow of REYNOLDS.
EZRA VAUGHAN, b 1822 Plattsburgh, NY m. RHEUMANY WHITE
BETSY PRISCILLA VAUGHAN b. 1852 m. CHARLES DANIEL MUZZY
Helen secured many of these details from the book compiled by H. VAUGHAN GRIFFIN which
was also recommended in the June 1987 newsletter by HELEN WILLIAMS. In another part of
this newsletter is printed some of the delightful correspondence I have had this summer with
Vaughan Griffin.
THOMAS NORRIS. Jr. Rt 2. Box 156, Hardy, VA 24101 hopes that someone will help
him rescue from obscurity ANN (VIRGINIA?) VAUGHAN, 1769-1829, wife of The Rev.
WILLIAM HARRISON, 1730-1814, living Petersburg, VA between 1790 and time of their
deaths. Issue, 3 daughters MARY ANN CRAWFORD, LUCY ANN FANNY, and
VIRGINIA. Each daughter married a member of the ARMISTEAD family and left numerous
issue. Thomas sent a very interesting history of Ann and William Harrison which will be printed
in the January newsletter.

the family and descendants of HUGH PATRICK DEVINES"~ ELIZA J. VAUGHAN, daughter

D. R. TAYLOR. 7201 Water-line Rd. Austin. TX 78731 made reference to page 41
of the June 1987 issue where I had printed some Burnett Co Tax records : He said that
the record should indicate that "Calpha" was really ZILPHA VAUGHAN who m. J.T.
Hall. Then he added that the BELLE VAUGHAN buried in the South Gabriel Cemetery
was the first wife of WILLIAM MURPHY VAUGHAN who is also buried beside her in
an unmarked grave. Her name was BELLE LAR6ENT. He does not know who BESSIE
VAUBHN was, but he intends to find out!
