VOL. V, #3, NOVEMBER 1987

SHALL WE CONTINUE ANOTHER YEAR?
Although two small Issues of the VAUGHAN, ETC. NEWSLETTER were mailed in 1983,
the real "life" of this project began with the January 1984 issue.  All data printed in those first
two were repeated in 1984.  About 250 copies are being mailed at this time.
My card index of Vaughan/Vaughn researchers now numbers over 500.  Many of these
people have helped at some time to defray the expenses of this project.   And many have sent
 more than the amount suggested.  Those extra funds, extra stamps, etc., have been used to
purchase paper and stamps used in the heavy correspondence connected with securing new
readers and related activities.  The friendly letters and research material you send is absolutely
unbelievable!  In many cases, this is original source material which you rescued from- anonymity.
Continued growth in the number of pages printed (which, results in greater postage costs) and
anticipated increases in printing costs along with a provable postal hike, indicate that the
expenses for 1988 v"11 rise.   Can you spare $10. for the year?  If not, send what your "gene"
budget allows.
If you can return the enclosed form soon, you will help me plan the January mailing.  Estimating
the amount of copies to have made is a very hard decision; too many and the money is wasted;
too few and then re-prints are very expensive.
MIRACLES DO HAPPEN !
Once I lamented in the NEWSLETTER that no documents could be found that would identify
"which James" was the father of my ancestor THOMAS VAUGHAN.  Then just a few weeks ago,
EULA McNUTT, Gate City, VA (a cousin of MABLE HARP, 401 S. Powell, Wagoner, OK
74467)   helped LORANA ROBINETTE clean the attic after Lorana's husband's death in
northeastern TN.   They found a small Bible, very old and worn, which contained a page of
Vaughan family member names:
JAMES VAUGHAN b 27 Sep 1767;  wife (name as yet undeciphered) b 3 Aug 1770.
Ch: WILLIAM b 7 Nov 1790;   THOMAS b 27 Aug 1793 (my gr gr grandfather);
ALLEN b 29 Apr 1795;    NANCY  b  6 Aug 1797;   JAMES b 15 Mar 1799.
That Bible page verifies parents and siblings of a number of ancestors of the readers of the
NEWSLETTER.   In the January issue, details of descendants, as I know them, will be printed.
If this is your line, please write me.  Is this James the son of WILLIAM VAUGHAN whose
will was probated 1785 Mecklenburg Co VA7  His second wife Mildredge and children were
named in the will.For reference to previously printed material on these families, see
