    JAMES VAUGHAN, Fayette Co, Ky. - Virginia Line  S-37497 (believed to be the brother of Thos.
Vaughan #S-6298, b. Caroline Co, Va.)

JAMES VAUGHAN of Fayette Co, in State of Ky, who was a Private in the regiment commanded
by Col. DAVIS if the Virginia Line, for the term of 3 yrs.
      Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of 8 dollars per month, to commence on 1st July 1818.
      Certificate of Pension issue the 20th of May 1819, and sent to Dan'l M C Payne, Lexington, Kentucky.
      Arrears to March 1819 = 8 mo 4/31 =                 65.3
      Semi-an'l allowance ending 4 Sept 1819             48.3

JAMES VAUGHAN - Declaration for a pension - District of Kentucky
      On this 1st day of July 1818, before me the subscriber one of the Judges of the Circuit Court of Fayette
Co for the said district, personally appeared JAMES VAUGHAN aged 74 years, resident in Fayette County,
in the said district, who being by me first duly sworn, according to law doth, on his oath, make the following
declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress entitled "An Act to provide
for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the U.S. in the Revolutionary War: "That he,
the said JAMES VAUGHAN enlisted in the year 1775 or 1776 in the State of Virginia for three years - in the
 company commanded by Captain LONG of the 14th Virginia Regement commanded by Colonel DAVIS on
the Continental Establishment - and that he continued to serve in the said Corps, or in the service of the U.S.
until the year 1778 or 1779 - when he was discharged from service in Trenton, State of  New Jersey, that he
was in battles of  Bunkers Hill, GermanTown and Brandywine, and that he is in reduced circumstances, and
stands in need of assistance of his country for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power
of his said services.
      Sworn to and declared before me, the day and year aforesaid.

      I, Benjamin JOHNSON, Judge, as aforesaid, do certify, that it appears to my satisfaction, that the said
JAMES VAUGHAN did serve in the Revolutionary War, as stated in the preceding declaration, against the
common enemy, for the term of nine months, on the Continental
establishment; and that he is in reduced circumstances in life; and I now transmit the proceedings and
testimony taken and had before me, to the Secretary for the Department of War, pursuant to the directions
of the aforementioned Act of Congress, given under my hand this 1st day of July 1818.

      I THOMAS BODLEY, Clerk of the Court for the Circuit aforesaid do certify that the Hon. BENJAMIN
JOHNSON whose name is subscribed to the foregoing declaration is the presiding Judge of the said Court
and all his official acts as such are entitled to full faith and credit.

the Courthouse in Lexington this first day of July 1818.

      I, BENJAMIN, one of the Circuit Judge of the State aforesaid, and successor an officer of the aforenamed
BENJAMIN JOHNSON - do certify that on this day HENRY ASBURY appeared before me and being sworn
as the law directs did depose and say that he is acquainted with the aforenamed JAMES VAUGHAN, and with
his circumstances, and that he knows him to be very poor and very old, and has no doubt that he is in such
reduced circumstances as to require the aid of thi [sic] country now - provided by law.  Whereupon it is
certified to the Secretary of War that it is proved to my satisfaction that the said JAMES VAUGHAN is in
such reduced and needy circumstances as to require the aid of his Country - Given under my hand this 28th

Re Claim:  S37497 JAMES VAUGHAN war pension - enlisted in Caroline Co, Va. in 1775, (VYB's note -
same as Thomas) served 3 yrs in Capt Longs Co, Col Stephens & Davis' Va. Regiments.  He was in the
battles of bunker Hill, Brandywine & Germantown. 
    He was allowed pension on his application executed July 1, 1818 at which time he was resident of
Fayette Co, Ky and was aged about 73 yrs.
    In 1821 he referred to his wife, and at same time stated that his children "Are grown and have left him". 
The names and ages of wife and children not given.

JAMES VAUGHAN  S37497   - The date & place of the birth of this soldier is not found in the claim,
nor names of his parents stated.  JAMES VAUGHAN enlisted in Caroli Co, Va. 1775 & served 3 yrs
in Capt. Longs Co; Col Stephen's & Davis Va. Regmts; he was in the battles of Bunker Hill, Brandywine
& Germantown.  He was allowed pension July 1, 1818, etc. as above.
