Daniel Rooke VAUGHN enrolled at Camp Union near Bladensburg, Marylandd on 10 Oct 1861 at age 14 as a
musician in Company G, 1 Michigan Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War.  He was discharged and mustered
in a second time.  Final discharge was 10 Jun 1865 in Jeffersonville, Ind.  His occupations listed were Confectioner
and Peddler.

My next known data is Daniel Rooke VAUGHN was remodeling and repainting the home of the New Orleans City
Engineer, Mr. & Mrs. Brown.  The Brown's had a house guest, a cousin from Dublin Ireland, Annie O'BRIEN.
Daniel and Annie were married 19 Mar 1874 in New Orleans.  The marriage Certificate names Daniel's father as
Benjamine J. and his mother as Susanna.  Annie's parents are named as James O'Brien and Jane Lennon, both
of Dublin, Ireland.  The Rev. Father Gleason performed the service at St. Alaphonsis Church.

The family moved to Texas 27 May 1874 and first appears on the Texas Tax Roll at Point Bolivar, Galveston Co.,
Tx in 1879 where Daniel R. VAUGHN had a ship yard.  Some children were born there.

The family sailed across the Bay to Galveston each Sunday to church at St. Mary's Cathedral where the
baptismal records for Henry Lewis and Alyce (?) are on file.

Sometime prior to 1895, Daniel Rooke Vaughn and family left Galveston Co. and relocated in Corpus
Christi, Tx.  Daniel Rooke Vaughn built and ran a hotel in Corpus which subsequently burned. All the
family papers and photos, except the family bible (belongs to Ann Etie - she has willed it to a nephew)
were lost in the fire.  He also built a ship while there named the Vyla Vaughn.

Daniel Rooke and Annie Vaughn later moved to Del Rio where some of the children were married.  They
then settled in San Antonio, Tx where they lived at 201 Devine, Ward 7.

The eldest son, Henry Lewis, mustered into Co E, 1st Texas Infantry from Corpus on 1 may 1898 as a
Quartermaster Sgt.  He was sent to Cuba serving as a cook and mustered out in Galveston in 1899.  His
occupation was Master of Ocean Shipping.
