ALICE CALLAWAY MOORE, 230 E. Wright, #8, Universal City, TX 78148 would
like to correspond with any Vaughans in the Seattle, WA area. Her oldest
known Vaughan was William, 1790-1874, who with his wife Mary were in the
Hawkins Co TN 1860 census. If this William the son of James whose story
I have printed on p 18 of this issue--MYSTERIES ABOUT JAMES VAUGHAN OF HAWKINS
CO.
ORPHAN TRAINS. Charles Kuralt, in his SUNDAY MORNING program
on CBS TV of January 12, 1986, presented the story of the so called "Orphan
Trains" which operated between the 1850's and 1930's. As there were
many orphans, mostly those of immigrant parents, in the New York area, a
plan was devised by the group responsible for the care of these children,
to send them to the Midwest where they would be taken into other child-care
facilities or into private homes. If you are searching for someone
who may have fit into this category,
this may give you a hint where to look.
