ONE OF THE MANY THOMAS VAUGHANS
BILLIE GOLDWIRE, 819 Elizabeth Drive, Forest Park, GA 30050 descends from a number of THOMAS
VAUGHANS. She "suspects" that the original family may have been that of THOMAS VAUGHAN -
MOLLY TURNER of Pittsylvania Co VA. Do these names sound familiar to anyone?
She and her husband, James Goldwire carefully document their extensive research. He is editor of
ANCESTORS UNLIMITED, INC. P.O. Box 1507, Jonesboro, GA 30237.
Recently they found the grave of a W. M. VAUGHAN, Co "K", 36 ALA Inf, died 3 Dec 1863- buried
in the Confederate Oakhill Cemetery, Newman, Coweta Co GA. She enclosed a snapshot of the grave
marker and the Historical marker.
Given below is the research done on one generation of her family.

Married: MARY A. CLIFTON daug. of BENJAMINE J. CLIFTON (b. 1818 TN) and NANCY H. (b. 1817 TN)
CHILDREN:
MATTIE- b. 1860 in WILSON CO TN, d. 1880 in DYER CO TN. Unmarried, probably buried in Rehobath
Methodist cem. Dyer Co.
R.S. "DICK"- b. 1861 in WILSON CO TN. Wife's name MATTIE (b. 8 Sep 1870)-family moved to San Diego,
CA and owned a landscaping business
there. Last address was 2433 San Marcos Ave, San Diego in Dec of
1943. He and his wife were still living at that
time. They had two daughters; ALLEY who married HUBERT
HAYS and had one daughter, Martha, b. 1925; OLA who married Mr. RICKER and had 2 children- WILLARD
RICKER, b. 1928 and BETTE RICKER, b. 1931. (R.S. Vaughan b. 25 April 1861)
SAMUEL- b. 9 Sep 1862 in WILSON CO TN, unmarried, d. 1945 in Newburn, TN, lived for many years in HUGO,
OK where he owned property including a hotel.
BETTIE- b.&d. dates unknown, married BOB SOTT and had 2 sons and maybe a daughter..youngest son, Peter
was raised by his VAUGHAN Grandfather and Aunts in RoEllen.
MARY "BABE"- b. &d. dates unknown-married CHARLIE WHITE and had 7 children: TOM, NORA (married
W.B. VIAR), MATTIE (married Mr. WHITE), MARY "ZOOK" (married Mr. BROWN), DIXIE, GORDON.
LETTIE-b. 21 Oct 1870 d. 23 Jun 1966, Fairview Cem., Newburn, TN.-married JOHN ASHCRAFT and had one
daug., DIXIE who married Dr. FRAME who was with the U.S. Public Health Service in the 1940's-the FRAMES
had two daug. who attended U. of TN- one was named GRACE VAUGHAN FRAME. DIXIE ASHCRAFT
FRAME b. 21 Oct 1906 died 20 Apr 1958 of a brain tumor.
JO- b.&d. dates unknown, married Mr. FLORENCE ROBINSON and had three children, MARY, THOMAS and
JAMES.
NINNIE- b. 19 Sep 1876 d. 19 Sep 1947, married NEWTON CLYDE CONNELLY, 22 Dec 1897 at her home near
RoEllen, TN by the REV TOM SANDERS. She is buried in MAPLE GRVE CEM., BLYTHEVILLE, ARKANSAS
where she moved in 1914. NINNIE and CLYDE had 7 children-only 3 lived to maturity-VAUGHAN WILSON,
JOHN & CLYDE HASKELL all died as infants and are buried in REHOBATH METHODIST CEM in Dyer Co
with their VAUGHAN Grandparents. One daughter, AMNA BELLE CONNELLY lived to be 16 and died of
typhoid fever in 1930 and is buried in Maple Grove Cem in Blytheville with her parents, and one brother,
SAMUEL ERSKINE CONNELLY, b. 4 Sep 1911 d. Apr 1966. RICHARD HURDIS CONNELLY, b. 19 Oct 1901
d. 13 Dec 1977 is buried at Ravenna, Ohio and MARY MOZELENE CONNELLY McDONALD, b. 4 Jul 1908 is
still lving. She married BUFORD SCRUGGS McDONALD and had one daughter, BILLIE ANN McDONALD
DEAKINS GOLDWIRE who has three sons, ANTHONY DUKE DEAKINS, STEPHEN EDWARD DEAKINS,
and MICHAEL CHRISTIAN DEAKINS.
DOLLIE- b. 1880 d. 1953, married GEORGE W. HOUSE, b. 1874 d.. 1940- had three children, ALLEN,
KATHERINE and JAMES RICHARD.
WILLIAM H.- b. 23 Sep 1878 d. 28 Mar 1909 - unmarried.
NOTE: BETTIE VAUGHAN SCOTT was born 6 Dec 1867 d. 31 mar 1894
