Among loose papers in the genealogy files In Athens, McMinn Co TN, Reba Boyer found a two-page copy of SKETCHES OF SOME OP THE PIONEERS OF MCMINN COUNTY AND THEIR ANCESTRY by Laura Cantrell Kinser (Mrs. P.A. Kinser), June 1926. This sketch gave information about our family's ancestor Thomas (b 1793 in VA).
Excerpts from her statements* "James Vaughan, the first member of the family for whom a record is given, nag born in Virginia and grew to adult age in that state. He married Elizabeth Balker and was the father of William, Alien, Thomas, Janes, Benjamin, Robert, Milton, Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Martha. Thomas married Leah McCarty in Hawkins County. About 1819 they migrated to McMinn county and settled near the present Good Springs church west of the town of Etowah on land that afterwards was known as the Denton farm."
A marriage record for James Vaughan and Elizabeth Walker has not been located. It is presumed that he was married twice because his will names his wife Sally.His will, probated in Hawkins Co in 1840, lists names of his children which match those given by Mrs. Kinser. Not mentioned in the will were Robert (died young), Thomas, and Milton. Thomas was living in Mcffinn County at that time so maybe bis father had already given him bis portion of the estate. Milton had died before July 1838, and Thomas was the executor and heir of his unmarried brother's estate. Milton's probate proceedings named heirs whose names match those in James* will* For easy comparison, here are the names in these three documentss
