from Voices of old men recall family history for cgurt in Floyd Co KY TIMES, Prestonsburg, KY, August
1964. The pamphlet discusses The family of WILLIAM PATRICK VAUGHAN & FAIR-A-BEE-
LUNAH, Cherokee maid in then western NC. They had at least two sons and several daughters. The two
known sons were WILLIAM VAUGHAN & AYRES T. VAUGHAN. Ayres b 1742 was among "the
earliest hooeseekers to Eastern KY had left the ancestral acres long before his brothers and sisters migrated
to AR. He had first gone north to VA and along the way had married and had several children. Then he took
his family to the Big Sandy River and settled near Blockhouse Bottom, which was founded by the HARMONS
and AUXIERS in the early 1790's. One o£ Ayres' sons was WILLIAM W., named for Ayres' father and brother.
Ayres died in 1842 at the home of a son on the river farm north of Prestonsburg. Buried in the family cemetery,
his stone says "A.T.V. age 100 DSD, Feb. 18, 1842." Sweetens Cover, near present Fayetteville,

TN is referred to as the family home base.
Notice the similiarities between this story and the VAUGHAH PIONEERS by Lewis Vaughan? Wonder how
these families fit together.
