of JAMES NICHOLAS VAOGHM, b 1730 Laurans Co SC. His wife was NANCY SULLIVAN,
d/o JAMES SULLIVAN SR S SARAH HARRISON CHOICE. James and Nancy's daughter was
NANCY who was born 1813 in Laurens Co SC, and married THOMAS M. GARRETT in 1830.
Is this the same family as listed by D'ANN SULLIVAN (See p.5, January 1984 Newsletter.)?

grandfather JAMES RICHARD HANKINS' sister MARY C., b 1864, Smith Co TN, and d Hunt
Co TX. She married LEE VAUGHAN in Jackson Co TM, ca 1388. She may have had three
children by F.H. MCCOIN, before she married LEE VAUGHAN.Fannin Co TX, Pre. #4, 1900
Census: VAUGHAN, LEE, b 1867; Mary, b 1865; Prank, b 1891; HENRY, b 1893; LOUIS
b 1894; and RICHARD, b 1899. Then in 1910, MARY, widow, was living in Hunt Co TX, with
children FRANK, HENRY, LOUIS, RICHARD, TRAVEY/TROHY.FRANK m2 VALLIE
ROWLAND. Their children: ODELL, MAYBELL, M&SIE, JACK, & BILLIE.
MARY LaGROHB, Box 90 j_ Lott,,. TX 76656 wants information on SUSANNAH VAUGHAN
who married ROBERT MOSELEY. They lived in Perry Co AL prior to and during the Civil War.
Some of their family came to Bell Co TX after the war.

on her family line, so hopes to get help from anyone familiar with these names. Her grandfather was
HARRY PHILLIP VAUGHN, b 1868 in PA, who married MABEL CHRISTMAS MOTSINGER
in 1905 in Kansas. Harry was supposedly named HENRY at birth, but some people gave his parents
some land if he would be called Harry instead. Lucille cannot prove Harry's birth; but his parents were
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN VAUGHN and AMANDA MELVINA BECKWITH (d/o ISAAC T. &
MARY E. BECKWITH, who were living in Tioga Co PA in 1850.) Amanda Beckwith had a brother
David and a sister Mary Ann.Lucille found this data on the back of a photograph which Mercy Ann
sent to Harry Phillip. Mercy Ann, who married a YOUNG, was 66 at the time of the picture. Little
clues often lead to more interesting revelations. Can you help?

married EDWARD GAMES (b Col Brecon, Waler, 1584, 1584, d in Wales 1606. ELIZABETH
VAUGHAN, d/o SIR WILLIAM VAUGHAM of Porthami Co Brecon, Wales, d al553, Sherriff of
Brecknockshire 1504, and CATHERINE HOVARD (d/o JAMES HOVARD, of Tredown.) Elizabeth
married an older EDWARD GAMES. ELIZABETH'S paternal gr. parents were WATKINS S JOAN
VAUGHAN. Her gr-grparents were: ROGER VAUGHAN of Porthami and JANE WHITNEY. If you
have anything additional on this Vaughan genealogy, she will gladly send recompense you for time and
expenses.
ROBERT A. VADGHAN, 2?1? High St., Canon CItyJ CO 81212 and IDELL VAUGHAN (see
p.40, Oct. 1984 Newsletter) may be working on a common SHERWOOD VAUGHAN. Robert
wrote that Sherwood, according to 1830 TN Census, was born ca 1770 in VA. Sherwood and his
first wife had sons JOHN GEORGE, b 1805 Washington Co TN, and WILLIAM, b 1807. In 1810
Sherwood was in Lincoln Co NC; then in 1815 in Washington Co TN he married ELIZABETH
HALE. He was given bounty land for being in the Rev. War; but as he seems not to have been old
enough to have served in the war, Robert wonders if this grant was possibly on his father's service.
But who was his father?
MARY LILLIAN WHITTEN 308 8. Wayne St_.J Macgn, MS 39341 and her sister have published
the book PETERS, VADGHAN (N) RUSSELS AND RELATED FAMILIES,. The oldest entry is
for JAMES VAUGHAN, b cl762, Fayette Co AL, who m l JANE__. He went into TN from SC.
He had at least two sons: JOHN and GEORGE. GEORGE and wife CATHERINE ELGIN ROBERTS
had 14 children, one of whom was ELIZABETH who m CHARLES PSTERS. Mary Lillian descends
from this marriage. Get info on purchasing the book from her.
