MORE ON THE VAUGHAN - SMITH - BONARD - ARMSTRONG FAMILIES

JEAN BULLION, 1941 Llano, Port Neeches, TX 77651 sent this copy of the original baptismal
record of ELIZABETH SMITH, wife of (1) ROBERT ARMSTRONG and (2) EDMUND VAUGHAN.  This was sent to her by the pastor of Eglise St. martin De Tours in St. Martinville, LA.  The dates
dispute Judge Albert Tate's theory that the Smiths were in Louisiana before 1791.  This seems to be impossible as Elizabeth Smith was born at Crooked River, Bahama Island 19 Dec 1791.  See page 35
of the June 1985 NEWSLETTER.

She says she had heard the same story on how Edmund Vaughan came to LA as did Sherrill Bourn
of Florida.  This story came down through Jean's family:

"Jim Vaughan, born in Dublin, Ireland in 1712, moved to Virginia in 1732 or 34 with his wife.  They
had 9 children, the youngest being Edmund.  Edmund was born in Planter, VA in 1774.  He shot a
man; and believing he had killed him, he ran to South LA and stopped in the settlement called "New Town" which is now New Iberia.  There he married Elizabeth Smith and had 8 children."

Anyone else have something interesting to add to this intriguing story?
