TOM ATKINSON, 414 E. Lily Lane, Arlington, TX 76010 continues the search for the parents
of SARA A. UNKNOWN who m DR. GEORGE MAGNUS VAUGHAN 26 Nov 1857 at St.
Clair, MO  On her death certificate the informant was MRS. JOHN CHRISTIE of Irene, TX. In
the Confederate pension papers of MRS. SARAH A. VAUGHAN, there was a letter from J.A.
Christie of Austin, TX, dated 18 Feb 1960 requesting information about the pension. No one by
that name now seems to live in Austin as calls to peccle by that surname in the Austin directory did
not bring any luck locating anyone familiar with the J.A. Christie family.

JUDY DAVIS, 250 ORION AVESUE, METAIBIE, LA 70005 is the daughter of ROBERT
WOODROW VAUGHAN born in Tipton, OK in 1916.

ELIZABETH COVEM, Rt 1, Box 27D, Wilmer, M. 36687 sent a family sheet for BURRELL
(BURR) JOHNSON COATE b 1830 and m MARY CAROLINE VAUGHN/VAUGHAN b 1835
(dau of John Singleton Vaughan & Letitia Haden Miller—see Apr 84 issue of Newsletter).
Children were DORA and LIVINGSTON MARMADUKE COATE.

RINTOA BOBBINS, 1404 W. 5th St., Madera, CA 93637 would lilte to have information on early
immigrants to Maine. Her family has always spelled the name as Vaughn.

LINDA HILL, 1031 Millard Dr., Nacogdoches, TX 75961 hopes to locate someone working on the
line of WYATT B. VAUGHN who, according to the 1850 TX census, was born in VA. He and wife
ELIZA J. PARKER moved from Greene Co GA to Rusk Co TX.  There were other Vaughns in
Greene Co GA, but she has been unable to make family connections with them. She knows the name
of  Wyatt*s mother and her second husband. She would like to trace the G& and VA branches of this
 family.

MILLIE ELIZABETH RUSSELL, 3101 Maryland Aye, Kenner, LA 70065 says her Vaughn case is
unusual and will probably always lie hidden just to haunt and frustrate heri Her mother was HATTIE
LEE VAUGHN b 1898 (seems every Vaughn family had a child named Hattie Lee). Her mother and
brother died in 1901 in convulsions—she assumes they died in an epidemic. After the funeral of her
mother and baby brother, her father disappeared. Supposedly an uncle JONAS WEBB took Hattie
Lee to TN. She was placed with four or five different families, but each time she was unhappy so Jonas
would place her with someone else. Finally, she was taken to an aunt's house in Jones Station, TN.
The aunt was poor and had many children. Mr. & Mrs. NED JONES fell in love with Hattie Lee so
she was given to them by the aunt. A year later (1906) she was legally adopted, and the Court was
petitioned to change the name to HATTIE LEE JONES. She lived happily with the Jones until she
married at age 14 to GUY LAWRENCE ELDER. They had 9 children of which 7 are still living.
Billie is inclined to believe her grandmother may have been a CAIN. A Cain family living near her
Grandmother Jones had many children, according to the 1910 census. Also JONES WEBB was
married to MARY CAIN. Any help will earn Willis's eternal gratitude. Wouldn't it be wonderful if
someone could help fill in the mystery spots?

LEONARD J. McCOWN, 217 W. 14th St., Irving, TX 75060 is researching;
JOHN VAUGHN b 1787 SC, d 1862 MS, m. Elizabeth ?  in 1807. NANCY VAUGHN b 1810
TN,  d 188? MS, m. JOHN McCOWN 1882.

(1823-1886) of Paducah, KY."
