RUTH ADKINS, Rt. 2, Box 472, Scottsboro, AL 35768 wrote about her ancestor  NANCY
VAUGHN, 2nd w/0 JOSEPH WILK GIFFORD. One bro was JEFFERSON, and probably
there was one named CHARLES. Nancy and Joseph were divorced after having a large family.
In 1880 she was listed as head of household, age 65, living with an ^"rvrried daughter. Census
records differ about her birthplace from TN, NC, or SC. Can anyone connect with these names?

PATRICIA E. BAILEY, 113 Birch Run, Florence, AL 35630 sent census data for 1900 Oakland,
Lauderdale CO AL: VAUGHN, JAMES A. 38, MATTIE (w) 19, WILLIE LEE (son) 19, George
2, ROXIE BELLE 5/12, MARY JANE (sis-in-law). His brother S--his family were;  VAUGHN,
JOHN WESLEY 50, BELLZORA 33 (2nd w), ABHER J. 17, JOHN L. 14, ROBERT 12, LUDY
10, GEORGE WILLIE 6, LIDA BELL 4, SARA EDNA 1. The wife's name seems to have been
ZORA BELLE MILES dau/o GEORGE MILES. John Wesley's death certificate lists his father as
JAMES A. VAUGHN whose wife was JAMB SMITH.

CARL A. BAHOVITCH, Rt 3, New Hope Rd, McKinney, TX 75069, has material on his wife's
mother who was a Vaughn who migrated from Laurens Co SC to Howard Co AR.  From there
many of the relatives went to Bell Co TX, around Troy, Eddy, and Temple. Another group migrated
to Tulia, Swisher Co TX. He has names of these people and even copies of two different Vaughn
Bible .records. Hopefully he will have those Materials ready to share in the November issue.

VAUGHN MOTI.EY BRYANT, Rt 19, Box 253, Hot Springs National Paric, AR 71913 wrote
that when he lived in South America no one could figure out how to pronounce "Vaughn" .  They
wanted to say "Vaw-gan"). He told them that it was Welsh for John, so he was  known as  Juan or
Juanito. When he was in Venezuela, he met a newspaper reporter those name was VAUGHAN
GONZALEZ. The reporter drew Vaughn aside at a presidential press conference and asked in
Spanish for a favor: "How to pronounce Vaughn correctly!" It seems the reporter's father had
known a person named Vaughan whom he admired so named his son after him, and the fellow
never knew how to pronounce it. If you saw an article in THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC,
Nov. 1984, about Vaughn Motley Bryant, that was the son of the above writer.
