Some of you mentioned the VAUGHAN/VAUSHN REPORT edited by SheRita Holbrcck in the late
1970's. It seems that the last contact with her was in early 1980, soon after she moved to Henderson,
TX.   Most likely, something unexpected hacae-.es that forced her to stop publication.   Does anyone
know?   A reader sent copies of some of the editions of the REPORT, and I found them very interesting.
It is too bad that it was not continued.

This newsletter has no connection to that one.   In fact, I was still teaching school in Los Angeles at that
time and had absolutely no knowledge or interest, in genealogy. That was a foreign subject to met
Now look what has happened!

When Shirley and I thought of this project, we had no idea that someone else had already tried it.   We
were just anxious to find others working on our THOMAS & LEAH MCCARTY VAUGHAN line.
But so far, we haven't.   But I've become "hooked." on Vaughans and am gathering more and more
material on them.  It is amazing how many lines stretch across our nation.

As I am now In correspondence with many people, the careful filing of letters and material has become
very. important.  It will help me considerably if you use notebook size (Si; by II") paper and write on
one side only.  I can then tile the letters in notebooks and .keep all correspondence on each person
together is a neat and,'hopefully, easily retrievable form.

Many thanks to those of you who are interested in continuing this effort and have therefore sent ?5
(and, in some cases, more) to help with printing and mailing costs.  Your words of encouragement
are appreciated.   Gradually the reader base widens as more newspaper columnists review the
newsletter.

THE STATE HISTOKICAL SOCIETX OF WISCONSIN, 816 State Street, Hadison, WI 53706
has microfilmed the newsletters.  So now your information has been recorded for "posterity."  That is
one of the advantages of such a publication.  Frankly, it was flattering to have the newsletter included
in their microfilm records.

One of my projects is collecting and transcribing public documents dated before 1900 which name any
Vaughans/Vaughns.   These are war records, land transfers, probate proceedings, court hearings, etc.
If  you have originals and/or transcriptions of such documents, I would appreciate receiving copies.  If
you wish, I will return your copies along with my typed versions.    Please include a SASE. Reading
such documents is tedious.   That is the reason I like to put them into typed form.   Gradually I am learning
how to interpret the writing and spelling of the years long ago.
