HAYWOOD VAUGHAH, 518 2nd NW, AJ-dmore, OK 73401 says that the Vaughans came from
Wales, and the name is said to be one of the English names still using original spelling. If found
without last "a", it is an American change or Irish in origin. Present Prince of Wales holds titles
and lands belonging to Vaughans before the nation was conquered and became part of the Empire.
The-oldest Crest or Coat of Arms goes back to 800.

"There is an area in northwest Arkansas (Madison Co) called Vaughan's Valley. It is about thirty
miles east of Fayetteville, Washington Co.

Note that HIRAM VAUGHAN, page 36 of the July, 1984 issue, mentioned by Heba -Boyer seems
to be the same H. I. OR H. J. mentioned on page 35—Civil War Mortuary Warrant files in TX
Archives. The wife's name seem to agree.

••LOCATING "LOST" TOWNS—To locate the current name of a town whose name was changed
years ago or the location of a town which has disappeared from maps, check lists of postmaster
appointments through the US between 1832-1971, or write to US Board on Geographic Names,
523 National Center, Reston, VA 22092.

COL. RALPH E. PEARSON, 2218 Alta Vista Ave., Austin, TX 78704 suggests that you
investigate carefully before purchasing a family history from the Beatrice Bayley organization. He had
a letter from the Chief Regional postal Inspector saying that they had entered into an agreement with
a principal officer of the Bayley group not to offer a Surname Family Heritage book. The agreement
was dated 1980, but Col. Pearson received an ad from them in May 1984.

••On October 13-14, 1984 Hawkins Co TN is holding its annual HERITAGE DAYS FESTIVAL at
Rogersville. The Gen. Soc. will have a Genealogical and Family History table. I hope this notice
reaches you before that date! But maybe you can plan to go next year. Also, if you are the fortunate
owner of an old Hawkins County Bible, the organization would appreciate having a photocopy
(hopefully a certified copy) of the family sheets. Address; Box 439, Rogersville, TN 37857.
