VAUGHN M. BRYANT, Bt. 19, Box 253, Hot Springs National Park, AR 71913 wrote, "My
research in the family has been limited to my gr grmother, MARY JANE VAUGHN BRYANT and
her sister, MARTHA VAUGHN BRYANT, who m brothers, JAMES S JOHN BRYANT, respectively.
MARY JANE & MARTHA were daus (among several children) of THOMAS VAUGHN who was s of
THOMAS VAUGHAN, Rev. War soldier born in Albemarle Co VA in 1756 and died in Lincoln Co
KY 1834.  He m first ABIGAIL FRANKLIN ca 1780, by whom he had 4 daus and sons THOMAS &
JAMES, both of whom moved to Monroe Co MQ.--James in the late twenties and Thomas sometime
after 1834 as he was in KY at time of his father's death, when I was checking land records of Lincoln Co
KY, I found said THOMAS VAUGHAN and his many land negotiations in the Crab Orchard area.  It
was there I found where our line dropped the "a", as said Thomas signed his name Vaughan, but in
naming son Thomas administrator of his estate (James having already migrated to Monroe Co MO), I
noted that Thomas purposely dropped the "a" and also that James had done the same when he sold
his property in 1828.  This had always puzzled me as I never knew if my Vaughns (Vaughans) in VA
dropped the "a" way back there or at a fairly late date.  The two BRYANT brothers, JOHN S JAMES,
had evidently known the Vaughn girls in KY.  JOHN BRYANT seems to have married Martha in KY
after returning from his earlier explorations in MO; but James then seems to have followed John to
Jackson Co Mo and then gone to Paris, MO to marry Mary Jane in 1852, as their marriage is recorded
in Monroe Co. This made for many double cousins."  THOMAS VAUGHN m ABIGAIL FRANKLIN
