BOOK REVIEW:     VAUGHAN PIONEERS
Lewis E. Vaughan of Bladensburg, MD is the author of a book entitled VAUGHAN PIONEERS, which
covers eight generations of the family of WILLIAM and FEREBY BENTON VAUGHAN of Russell Co
VA,  William was born circa 1750, reportedly in Wales, and died between 1838-40 in northwest Arkansas.  Fereby was born circa 1750 in North Carolina and died May 1850 in Madison Co AR,  Fereby was part Cherokee, and one family tradition says the couple married'in the Old Cherokee Nation in Tennessee-       ,

The family left Russell County in 1797, spent the period 1797-1814 in Hawkins Co TN, then moved to
Middle Tennessee.  From about 1817 to 1822 they lived in Missouri, after which they settled in Arkansas,
where they spent the remainder of their long lives -

Their children were THOMAS b ca 1773, m 1793 NANCY FORD b ca 1776 in VA; JOHN b ca
1774-75; SAMUEL b ca 1776, m CATHARINE HAMMONS (HANDS) b ca 1786 in VA; DANIEL
 b ca 1787; WILLIAM b ca 1789-90; and ELIZABETH B ca 1790-  There were one or more other
children whose names are not known but who left descendants.

The book contains many personal histories, pictures, and stories.  The Indian heritage is particularly
interesting.  Unfortunately, the book is out of print. ' To obtain a copy, ask your genealogy library to borrow
the book for you on an inter-library loan. Many copies are available across the country.

HUDSON FAMILY ASSOCIATION, Rt. 7, Del Monte Place, Longview, TX  75602.  This is an association of volunteers who are trying to find others with HUDSON backgrounds. They are collecting data on Hudsons who have lived south of Philadelphia at some point in time-  They issue outstanding bulletins and maintain a large research file.  If your family is HUDSON, you may be in luck with this group.  Dues are $10. per year.

Reagan, TX  76680.  Include a SASE.  The RAILSBACK family lines reach back over 200 years in the U.S
They have a well organized group which is preserving information on the RAILSBACK name.  Reunions are held every other year-  They are also engaging outside researchers to help collect documents on Railsback and allied family lines.
