The biography of ROBERT YOUNG VAUGHAN gives the name of the father of THOMAS VAUGHAN
as JAMES,  The will of JAMES VAUGHAN (given above) does not mention the names of THOMAS and MILTON, but we suspect that they were sons to whom he had previously made a settlement when they left Hawkins County for McMinn County.

The basis of this assumption is that Thomas was named administrator
in 1838 of the estate of MILTON VAUGHAN of McMinn County, who apparently was unmarried because
no spouse or children are mentioned.  Indications are that Thomas was his brother.  Heirs listed match the
ones in James' will:  WILLIAM VAUGHAN, ALLEN VAUGHAN, JAMES DONALDSON, JACOB HARROLL, BENJ W, VAUGHAN. DOSWELL (?) ROGERS, JOSEPH VAUGHAN, JAMES
VAUGHAN JR, and THOMAS VAUGHAN-

Can anyone help us with this mystery?  Is there a deed or other paper in Hawkins County that grants
property to Thomas and Milton from James?  If so, then we would feel sure we have located the "correct"
James for the father of Thomas, our ancestor, who served for 12 years as Clerk of McMinn County, TN.

We are looking for MIMI VARNELL, a native of France.  Has anyone come across this name?
According to PATRICK DUNNE, 1123 S. Witter, #111, Pasadena, TX 77506, family tradition says that
she was a remote ancestor.  Patrick is one of the descendants of THOMAS VAUGHAN and LEAH McCARTY, parents of ROBERT YOUNG VAUGHAN who m MARTHA ANGELINE TRIPLETT.
We are very interested in hearing from anyone who remembers hearing this name.  Possibly she would have
lived around 1800,  We have no other clues on her.  Write Patrick or Vern*
