From records of Joan Gipson-FrelinI have recently begun to research the ancestry of my great-grandmother, Annie Little Walden b. 4 Apr 1863 in White County, Illinois, and was quite pleased to find your database "Charles Vaughan Descendants for Rootsweb" at Ancestry.com. Annie was the daughter, and the last child I believe, of William Little and Martha Vaughan, who was previously married to Webb Qualls.
I thought that you might be interested in the obituaries for Annie and two of her siblings. These came to me via the genealogy collection of my uncle Chaney Eugene Walden (b. 1924 Hamilton County, Illinois) who in his younger years was a diligent researcher but not big on citing sources. Chances are that these obits were published in the McLeansboro Times Leader of Hamilton County. The next time I visit the area I will try to find out more.
Annie Little, daughter of Wm. and Martha Little, was born April 4th, 1863, in White county; departed this life Dec. (Can't read Number), 1914, after an illness of five days. Her father and mother passes [sic] away when she was but a child of two years; she found a home with friends until Nov. 18, 1877, she was united in marriage to Travis Walden. This union was blessed with seven children, four girls and three boys, four having preceded her to the great beyond. The father departed this life Sept. 23, 1905
She lived as a widow eight years and on Oct. 15, 1913, was again married to J.V. Cremeens, of Delafield. She leaves to mourn her departure, husband and three children, Chaney M. Walden, Estella Cross and Joe Walden, besides five grand-children, five step-children and two brothers.[Delafield is in Hamilton County, Illinois. Annie is buried with her first husband Travis Walden at Middle Creek Cemetery in Dahlgren, Hamilton County, Illinois, and the stone does not have a full date of death.]
GEORGE ROBERT LITTLE
George Robert Little died Feb. 5, 1914, at his home near Maple Ridge Cemetery. He was born near Carmi Feb. 12, 1854. He would have been 60 years old in another week. His parents died when he was nine years old and Judge Orlando Burrell raised him. He was elected assessor of this township, was Postmaster for two terms under President Chester A. Arthur, a member of the school board several years. He married Cynthia Ann Barton of Springerton on Sept. 20, 1876, at the old Burrell home where he lived. They had six children, W. Frank Little, of this city, John J. Little, Evansville, Ind., Bertha who died at age two years, Mrs. Ethel Jones who died five years ago, Robert Little Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Overby Sterett of this city. All came to the funeral. He has two brothers, Abe Little of this city and Joe Little of McLeansboro, a sister, Mrs. Anna Walden of Delaifield, Ill. Services held at the residence by Rev. U.S. Johnson of the Christian Church, Mr. Little being a member. And a member of the M.W.A. in charge of services [as found]. Pallbearers were George Cross, Harry Kello, Albert Huber, Will Carter, George Smith Jr., and John Hall, who tenderly laid the form to rest in Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Mary E. McDowell. (Contributed) Mary E. Little was born in White county, Ill., in 1859, where she lived until grown to young womanhood. In 1877 she was united in marriage to George McDowell. To this union were born 10 children, eight sons and two daughters. Of this family the husband and five sons remain to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and loving mother. In early life Mother McDowell was converted and united with the Christian church and remained through life an humble and faithful follower of the loving Savior. She passed peacefully away from this life at Polaris, Montana, on July 20, 1912, aged 53 years. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. D.M. Harvey, were held in the Spring Creek Methodist church and her body was laid away in the cemetery near by, to await the resurrection of the dead. Many friends sympathize deeply with the bereaved ones.
It was interesting to see that George Robert Little was b. in 1854 and that Martha and William were married in 1855. I wonder if he was born a little ahead of schedule or if he was from a previous marriage. A Qualls raised as a Little, perhaps?
Also, other records suggest that Mary E. Little McDowell's dates of birth and marriage may be off one year (to the early side) in her obituary as well.
Finally, I will pass on the family story that William and Martha Little are buried in the vicinity of Blue Mound Baptist Church in Carmi, White County, Illinois. It is reasonably certain at least that they died in White County, as Judge (title) Orlando Burrell of White County assumed guardianship of at least some of their children.

Notes for ANNIE LITTLE:
Records of Joan Gipson-Frelin
Hi Sara,
I have recently begun to research the ancestry of my great-grandmother, Annie Little Walden b.
She lived as a widow eight years and on Oct. 15, 1913, was again married to J.V. Cremeens, of Delafield. She leaves to mourn her departure, husband and three children, Chaney M. Walden, Estella Cross and Joe Walden, besides five grand-children, five step-children and two brothers.
[Delafield is in Hamilton County, Illinois. Annie is buried with her first husband Travis Walden at Middle Creek Cemetery in Dahlgren, Hamilton County, Illinois, and the stone does not have a full date of death.]

He was away from home a great deal and when he did come home it is said there was money for whatever was needed and these of all the Vaughan children were the most well to do.
It was discussed whether or not he was the John Wesley Hardin but this has not been validated one way or the other.
It was told to me by family members he was as "yellow as a pumpkin" before he died. Would assume biliary disease.

Notes for PEARL MARGARET UNDERWOOD:
Pearl was born in a log cabin in Oklahoma Territory 5 miles east and half south
of Norman. The first school attended was Adair. She and Clyde grew up near the
Sam Vaughan farm and played with Nellie, George and Cicero Vaughan. They moved from there in a covered wagon to Sterling. She remembered stopping along the road and sleeping in the wagon and building a camp fire to cook meals and while on the way there had been a big rain and " we had to ford a stream of water. Mother was so afraid she was not oing to cross. The lead team which was a pair of young mules and Dad in the lead, the mules got scared and ran away, mother was scared todeath, jumped in the feed box of the lead wagon and rode across the stream."
