James AC James Vaughan, son of William T. in 1787 in Mecklenburg Co. matches quite nicely with James Vaughan (Tagged AC for Aaron’s Cr.) in 1788 in Halifax Co. He pays taxes through 1804 (consistently tagged AC) and then sells his land on Aaron’s Cr. in early 1805. The deed recites he is a resident of Mecklenburg Co. Land taxes are paid in 1805; and personal taxes are not. Then in 1806 and 1807 an estate pays taxes that is a good match to James (AC) followed by a Catherine Vaughan paying taxes thereafter, that is likewise a good match. From the number of White Tithes it is apparent that he had quite a few sons. There is no estate for any James in Halifax or Mecklenburg Counties in abt. 1805. Alternatively, he moved to Mecklenburg Co. and lived there for a few more years. There is a James Vaughan, Sr. that appears there in the 1805 personal tax digest and who pays taxes through 1813, followed by two years paid by his estate. There is and Inventory for James Vaughan taken in 1816 (VA Halifax WB 10.682). There is nothing remarkable about the inventory. James BC Another James Vaughan (Tagged BC for Burches Cr. in some personal tax digests, but not consistently) also appears in 1788. He owns land in Halifax Co. from 1793 thru at least 1823 (I have not researched past that date at this time.) He appears to have had one son based upon white tithes. More details on this James to come... |
