GREENSVILLE COUNTY, VIRGINIA
VAUGHAN FAMILY
County Intro
Greensville County was formed in 1781 out of Brunswick County. Brunswick County was formed in 1720 out of Prince George County, but was not organized until 1732. It covered a huge area encompassing all or a portion of present day counties of Bedford, Campbell, Charlotte, Franklin, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Patrick and Pittsylvania. Parts of Surry County and Isle of Wight County were added to Brunswick in 1723 and 1732.
It is obvious when researching prior to 1732 that Brunswick County and Prince George County records should be researched (what little there are). What is not obvious is that parts of Surry County and Isle of Wight County were added to Brunswick in 1723 and 1732. Accordingly, those counties should be researched when researching Greensville and Brunswick families prior of 1732.
Parish Intro
The primary parishes of Greensville County are St. Andrews and Meherrin Parishes.
