Parish Intro
Charles City Parish was formed in 1613. Jordan's Jorney Parish, Westover Parish and Weyanoke Parish were all split off in 1618. Bristol Parish was split off in 1643. All included portions of Charles City County until Prince George County was formed in 1703. They were reorganized in 1721 and Martin's Brandon Parish was formed in 1721 for portions of the preceding parishes that lay south of the James River. Westover Parish gave up its territory south of the James River; and the other parishes gave up their territory north of the James River. Westover Parish was the surviving parish left to serve Charles City County.
