George Vaughan does not pay tax on this tract in 1782. It then shows up in the 1783 Alterations List. Then in the May 1, 1785 to May 1, 1786 Alterations List taxation is transferred to James Vaughan, Jr. There is no deed on record of this transfer. Then in 1796-1797 Alterations List taxation is transferred from James Vaughan (with no Jr.) back to George. George pays taxes on the land in 1797. Again, there is no deed on record of this transfer. Then in 1796 George deeds the property outright to James Brunswick Co. D.B. 16.352 . James resumes paying taxes on the tract in 1798. George dies intestate in 1813. In 1814 a number of the children of George enter into an agreement to care for Sarah, widow of George. James is not one of those children. James continues to own the 100 acres tract until he sells it in 1816. James only lists himself as Jr. in the 1784 Personal Property Tax Digest. James lists himself as “Overseer” (or simply “O”) for Thomas Stith from 1787 to 1796 in the tax lists. Thomas Stith appears in a number of documents along with James Vaughan who married Susannah Hicks (not to be confused with James “Buck” Vaughan who married Susannah widow of Humphrey Garrett.]
