Josiah Nolley Admr of George Vaughan |
Vaughan |
|
Original |
Petition dated 27 Nov 1817 of John H. Vaughan. John loaned money to his father George Vaughan. Before George died, John asked his father to settle up. His father said that he was unable to and that he would have to settle with his estate. George died in 1812? [hard to read] His widow Sarah/Sally Vaughan was the initial admr. (John never refers to her as his mother. The inference is that she was not his mother.) John made a purchase at an estate sale of perishable property. Later Josiah Nolly was named admr. de bonis non (successor admr.). Josiah refused to give John credit for the money loaned. Josiah Nolly filed an answer. On 10 Aug 1821, Polly Vaughan and Moody Vaughan (no relationships given for either), both of Mecklenburg County gave affidavits supporting the fact that George owed money to John and told him he could not settle up with him. There is no final order in the file. [Note: Moody Vaughan m. Polly Lett 11 July 1800 in Brunswick County, Va.] Thanks to Chuck Vaughan’s cousin Kimberly Atkins who made a special trip to the Library of Virginia and made cell phone photos of this file. |
