This Rhosier's Father was Rhosier, therefore the
father had to be
Rhosier Hen, the 'Old, and the son of Rhosier Fychan,
i.e. 'Little
Roger'. Rhosier's sons (not all) are called Fychan
or Vaughan, and
it is fairly clear that the Vaughan in this generation
had become
there surname.
Many of the Vaughan families of Brecknock, Radnor,
Gwent and
Carmarthen received their name form this source.
Other examples of the same process came about latter
in the great
families of North and West Wales so that Vaughan
as a name has
become the associations of the gentry social class.
This example represents one of the means of fixing
upon a permentant
surname, i.e. choosing the epithet identification.
